To increase awareness among members of the Ethiopian diaspora about the urgency of preserving survivor stories, in order to heal the community through the power of storytelling and shared humanity. To tell stories that create empathy across generations and between the diaspora and the larger communities in which the diaspora resides.

To celebrate the diligence and courage of people who undertake to meliorate the effects of violence, those who continue to provide news coverage and public services in the face of threats and those who minister to the victims of violence

To remind people of the violence and cruelty that human beings are capable of, to encourage a new generation of Ethiopians to recognize their role in ensuring no mass communal violence such as that which occurred in the aftermath of the 1974 revolution should take place under their watch, and to recognize the important role that ordinary citizens can play in counteracting hatred, prejudice, tribalism, humiliation, and torture.
